Fireworks in Myrtle Beach

Every year, thousands of visitors gather along the beaches, piers, and Marshwalk to celebrate the Fourth of July. The good news? You can watch many of these displays live from home—or scout out the best viewing locations before you leave your hotel.

Note: Show times and event schedules can change due to weather or local planning. Check official town and event websites before you go.

July 4th Fireworks Schedule

Most professional fireworks shows begin shortly after sunset, typically between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM. All displays are weather permitting.

Myrtle Beach hosts a special July 4 fireworks show in place of its usual Wednesday summer display. The weekly Boardwalk shows continue throughout July on Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM.

Our Myrtle Beach Skywheel/2nd Ave Pier cam sits at the launch site—the best live view of the show. For alternate angles along the Grand Strand's central oceanfront, also check Myrtle Beach 30th Ave North (north of the boardwalk), Myrtle Beach Springmaid Pier (south end), and Myrtle Beach 29th Ave South (Crown Reef area).

Surfside Beach holds a full day of Independence Day festivities, but the town does not host a professional July 4 fireworks display. Budget cuts eliminated the town-sponsored show years ago, and Surfside has not put on an official July 4 pier fireworks display since 2016. Visitors may still set off personal fireworks along the shoreline away from the pier—see the fireworks laws section below.

For the golf cart parade, try the Surfside Beach Pier cam for the south end of Ocean Boulevard or Surfside Beach 13th Ave for a mid-route oceanfront view. For Salute from the Shore, use the town's Surfside Pier Camera on our Surfside Beach Pier page.

There is no separate professional fireworks show at the Pier at Garden City. The Pier is a popular July 4 gathering spot, but the Grand Strand's largest South Strand aerial display launches from the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk at 10:00 PM. Verify parade start times on the official Marshwalk site.

Which Surf Cam for Which Event?

Here is a full breakdown of our cameras matched to July 4th events and viewing spots.

Myrtle Beach Skywheel/2nd Ave Pier

Best for: Downtown Myrtle Beach Boardwalk fireworks (9:00 PM), Hot Summer Nights at Plyler Park, and general oceanfront crowd conditions along the central Grand Strand.

This cam sits at the heart of the boardwalk near the SkyWheel and Second Avenue Pier—the exact launch point for Myrtle Beach's professional fireworks display. If you want one cam for the city's main July 4 show, this is it.

Myrtle Beach 30th Ave North

Best for: An alternate oceanfront view north of the boardwalk during the 9:00 PM fireworks show, plus crowd and weather conditions along the northern stretch of Myrtle Beach.

This page includes North and South views from Caribbean Resort & Villas—useful if you're staying north of downtown and want to gauge visibility and beach activity before heading to the boardwalk.

Myrtle Beach Springmaid Pier

Best for: South-end Myrtle Beach crowd conditions, surf, and weather on July 4—and a southern oceanfront perspective along the city limits toward Surfside Beach.

Springmaid Pier sits on the south end of Myrtle Beach. While the boardwalk fireworks launch from Second Avenue Pier, this cam is a good choice for monitoring the busy south-end beachfront throughout the holiday.

Myrtle Beach 29th Ave South

Best for: South Myrtle Beach oceanfront conditions at Crown Reef Beach Resort & Waterpark—ideal for checking crowds and weather in the southern part of the city on Independence Day.

This cam covers the Crown Reef area, between Springmaid Pier and the central boardwalk—a convenient pre-show check if you're staying in south Myrtle Beach.

Cherry Grove Pier

Best for: North Myrtle Beach's official July 4 fireworks show (9:30 PM), Salute from the Shore, and Cherry Grove beach crowd conditions.

This page includes North and South pier views—the closest live look at the City of North Myrtle Beach's professional fireworks display. Arrive early via the cam to check beach and traffic conditions; the pier and adjacent beach close before showtime.

North Myrtle Beach

Best for: General North Myrtle Beach oceanfront conditions and a wider view of the northern Grand Strand on July 4.

This cam is useful for monitoring holiday beach traffic and weather across North Myrtle Beach, and for checking conditions near the Barefoot Landing area before the 10:00 PM Intracoastal fireworks show.

Surfside Beach Pier

Best for: Salute from the Shore at the fishing pier (12:45 PM), the south end of the golf cart parade route, and pier-area beach conditions.

This page includes three live views:

Personal fireworks are prohibited within 500 feet of the pier, so informal displays are more likely visible from cams farther up the beach.

Surfside Beach 13th Ave

Best for: Mid-route views of the golf cart parade on Ocean Boulevard, general Surfside beach crowds, and informal July 4 fireworks along the shoreline.

This oceanfront cam sits away from the pier exclusion zone, making it a useful spot to gauge beach activity—and potentially catch personal fireworks displays that visitors set off legally on July 4 between sunset and 11:00 PM.

Garden City Pier

Best for: Personal fireworks along the Garden City beachfront, oceanfront crowds at the Pier at Garden City, and South Strand surf and weather conditions.

The Pier at Garden City is a popular July 4 gathering spot, and this cam is one of the best live views of independent fireworks displays along the oceanfront. While the professional show launches from the Marshwalk at 10:00 PM, Garden City Pier is the go-to cam for watching holiday activity and personal fireworks on the beach.

Murrells Inlet

Best for: MarshWalk fireworks (10:00 PM), the boat parade as it passes through the inlet, and waterfront crowd conditions along the Marshwalk.

This page includes four live views—switch between them on the cam page for the best angle:

Tune in early to catch boat parade traffic and dinner-hour crowds, then switch to Marshwalk #1 or Marshwalk #2 for the area's main professional fireworks display.

Can You Shoot Fireworks on the Beach?

South Carolina allows consumer fireworks statewide, but local rules vary significantly along the Grand Strand. Where you are determines whether personal fireworks on the sand are legal.

Myrtle Beach — Not on the Beach

Fireworks are prohibited at all times on the beach, beach accesses, public streets, parks, and all other public property within the City of Myrtle Beach.

On private property only, fireworks are allowed between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM most days, extended until 12:30 AM on July 4–5 and New Year's. You must be 18 or older (minors only with a parent or guardian). Violations carry a $250 fine for a first offense and $500 for repeat offenses within a year.

The 9:00 PM Boardwalk show is a permitted professional display—the only exception on public property.

Surfside Beach — Yes, on July 4 Only

Surfside Beach is a notable exception. Personal fireworks may be discharged on the beach from sunset until 11:00 PM on July 4, in the area from the mean high-water mark eastward to the Atlantic Ocean. A similar window applies on New Year's Eve (sunset December 31 until 1:00 AM January 1).

Restrictions:

Watch informal displays from Surfside Beach 13th Ave rather than the pier cams, which sit inside the exclusion zone.

Garden City & Murrells Inlet — Not on the Beach

Murrells Inlet and the northern Garden City beachfront fall under unincorporated Horry County. Discharging fireworks on public beaches, beach accesses, street ends, and county land adjacent to the beach is unlawful, with civil fines starting at $50.

Southern Garden City sits in Georgetown County, where many public beaches are designated fireworks-free zones under county beach ordinances. Rules can vary by specific location and access point.

Property owners can also establish posted Fireworks Prohibited Zones on private or adjoining public land under South Carolina state law.

Litchfield — Not on the Beach

The Litchfield beach area falls under Georgetown County regulations. The Litchfield-by-the-Sea community is a designated fireworks-free zone, and fireworks are strictly prohibited on the beach and throughout the community.

Other Litchfield beach accesses may also fall within Georgetown County fireworks-free zones. If you're unsure about a specific location, contact the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at 843-546-5102. Fireworks debris on public beaches is considered litter, and those discharging fireworks are responsible for cleanup and removal.

The Town of Pawleys Island prohibits fireworks everywhere on the island, including the beach and all town limits. This is an absolute ban—no fireworks are permitted on Pawleys Island at any time.

Best Places to Watch Fireworks in Person

If you're heading out on the South Strand, these are the highlights—with the cam to check before you go:

Plan extra time if you're visiting both Garden City and the Marshwalk on the same day—the boat parade and evening fireworks draw heavy traffic along Highway 17 Business. Parking fills quickly, and congestion can start several hours before the fireworks begin.

Check Weather and Surf Conditions Before You Go

Summer thunderstorms are common along the South Carolina coast. Before heading out, check our cams for:
